Individuals & Couples Therapy Intensives
Barry and Janae specialize in working intensively with individuals and couples at their Institute near Asheville, North Carolina. Nestled in the foothills between the Blue Ridge and Smoky Mountains in the midst of some of the most beautiful natural scenery in the world, the climate and environment support the uplifting experiences of CICRCL's Therapy Intensives.
Therapy intensives are designed to help people quickly and significantly transform themselves and/or their relationships, particularly when intractable conflicts are involved. The Weinholds have used this intensive format with hundreds of people and found that it can shift consciousness in ways that are difficult to achieve with other forms of therapy. For out-of-town clients, Janae and Barry provide information on hotel accommodations near their Institute.
Because the Weinholds' therapy model draws heavily from developmental psychology, it removes the "diseasing" found in most clinical models and also provides clients with a set of hopeful, empowering tools. More information on the developmental component of their therapy model can be found in their books, Breaking Free of the Co-dependency Trap, The Flight From Intimacy and Conflict Resolution: The Partnership Way. Their therapy intensives help people identify the unhealed Developmental Traumas from early child hood experiences that they are re-enacting in their present conflicts. People learn where Developmental Trauma is anchored in their past and how it causes recurring conflict. This aspect of therapy intensives is really important, as it helps people learn why they feel and behave the way they do, rather than feeling crazy because of addictive/repetitive or self-destructive behaviors they might have. Janae and Barry believe that people do what they do for a REASON--that they are not stupid or crazy--just TRAUMATIZED!
Once the source of a person's Developmental Trauma has been identified through a variety of experiential diagnostic tools, the next step is healing trauma-based behavior patterns. The Weinholds use Developmental Process Workto help clients modify their relational template. This involves clearing traumatic relational experiences, pictures/flashbacks, words/thoughts, beliefs about ones' self, emotions/feelings, cellular body memory in and situation-specific relationship dynamics. Barry and Janae have found their systemic approach highly effective in eliminating traumatic influences that cause intractable relationship conflicts.
In a couple intensive, Barry and Janae help clients identify how their patterns of Developmental Trauma interlock. There is typically a symmetry between these patterns that shows how partners are "right" for each other. Once this symmetry is identified, Janae and Barry outline a course of mutual healing for the couple and teach them the tools they need to transform their relationship at the deepest levels.

-Margie
My therapy intensive time with the Weinholds was invaluable. I obtained a closer and more concise view of my own issues and style of relating to others than I had accomplished over a much longer period in other types of therapy. Their ability to keep me focused helped me look at what I want from life and learn how I can achieve that for myself. Of particular value was the information regarding conflict resolution. I am trying to incorporate those techniques in all of my relationships and find that I am not only clearer about what I want but I am doing a better job of hearing what others want. The Weinholds are gifted individually but they work beautifully together, providing an invaluable tapestry of therapy. The results are certainly worth the effort.
