SUGGESTIONS FOR BUILDING LOCAL COMMUNITY
1.
Identify a group of people
with whom you have similar values, beliefs and spiritual orientations and create group activities and projects to help forge them into a cooperative, self-sufficient,
micro-society.
2. Create cooperative group projects and ventures such as gardening, food production, resource sharing and bartering.
3.
Make the needs of children
and families a priority, for children are the future. Work to stabilize the
social environment by making change something fun and exciting. Involve
children in practical projects such as gardening.
4.
Take steps to ensure that
you maintain the knowledge of the past and preserve the seeds for future
planting. Invest time in educating the future generations. Preserve useful
books such as those on medicine, engineering, agriculture, mathematics, and
the sciences.
5.
Use social collaboration
and peer pressure to help bring people into your circle. Resist the urge to
compete with neighbors or other groups.
6.
Assess your current
situation and try to envision the current level of economic activity extended
fifty or a hundred years hence. Remember: rebuilding society is your goal, so
invest in cottage industries and infrastructure that can later expand.
- Choose an effective, efficient form of group
governance that avoids ideological dogma. Be flexible.
