KASSI: A Project of the Kindness Campaign

These steps are presented in "Spreading Kindness: A Program Guide for the Kind & Safe Schools Initiative, Volume I:
Implementing the Kind & Safe Schools Initiative." This program guide contains a step-by-step process for implementing KASSI in a school. There are two additional program guides that you will need to purchase in order to fully implement KASSI. Below is a brief summary of these implementation steps plus showing how the additional program guides might be utilized as part of the implementation.
I. Initial Planning: What is Needed to Create a Kind and Safe School? II. Establish The Kindness Campaign to Change the School Climate III. Create an All-School Policy on Bullying and Put-Downs IV. Establish Primary Prevention Programs (Optional)
a. Purchase Volume I of KASSI
b. Schools officials review objectives of KASSI and do a needs assessment to determine how well it might meet the needs of the school
c. Purchase Spreading Kindness:Volumes II and III of the program
d. Begin planning the program
a. Discuss KASSI with faculty and staff
b. Select a KASSI Coordinating Committee & School Coordinator (s)
c. Have committee design program to meet school needs and select the activities to use from Volume II of the Program Guides containing 180 field-tested all-school and classroom activities
d. Organize kick-off assembly or classroom presentations for the students
e. Follow-up regularly with faculty & students, and hold regular meetings of the KASSI Coordinating Committee to review progress
f. Help start Kind Kids Council (s)
g. Plan and conduct on going evaluation of outcomes
a. Conduct student/faculty survey/needs assessment
b. Do in-service for faculty & staff (utilize data from surveys)
c. Design classroom activities for students
d. Develop classroom and school rules
e. Do follow-up with teachers and students
f. Design and conduct on going evaluation process (formative & summative)
a. Purchase Volume III of the Program Guides with activities on starting a peer mediation/counseling program, a conflict resolution curriculum and a restorative justice program
b. Help establish a peer mediation/counseling program
c. Help establish a conflict resolution curriculum for all students
d. Plan and create a Restorative Justice School Discipline Program
